For, um, not recognizing that the way hockey players talk amongst themselves – and, especially, the way an agitator talks on-ice – is just not suitable for public airing (especially when you’re doing it on purpose). From the Dallas Morning News:

Sean Avery this morning asked the media in Calgary to gather around for a statement and then said this:

“I am really happy to be back in Calgary, I love Canada,” Avery said. “I just want to comment on how it’s become like a common thing in the NHL for guys to fall in love with my sloppy seconds. I don’t know what that’s about. Enjoy the game tonight.”

Avery used to date actress Elisha Cuthbert, who is from Calgary. Flames defenseman Dion Phaneuf (above, right)  now is dating Cuthbert (left).

C’mon… tell me that’s not way more entertaining than Chad Johnson sending CBs Pepto-Bismol.

Which is not to say that Avery’s comment isn’t sexist and offensive. Hopefully when Gary Bettman’s finished setting Avery straight, he’ll do something about every blog and message board that has ever treated Cuthbert disrespectfully.
