I’m interested as to how a retired Army general/cabinet officer has the financial muscle 6 months out of office to buy in to an MLB franchise chasing syndicate. Oh that’s right, he wrote a book after he retired the first time; that must be the source of his cash.
Great American hero my ass- money grubbing parasite is more like it. Just like (and it pains me to say it) Red Sox co-owner and hero of my State o’ Maine, George “Give me Disney/Big Tobacco dollars” Mitchell.
I’ve not bothered to research this, but I sincerely doubt that Powell would be putting up the lion’s share of the scratch on his own. He’s probably just the front man for whatever consortium are looking to own the team — no different than Reggie Jackson’s attempts to purchase the A’s (except Powell might actually be taken seriously).
Well if they pull it off lets see if General Powell (Man of Integrity TM) makes out like GWB did with the Rangers. Baseball used to be a way for rich men to lose money, now it seems to be a way to enrich connected and useful Republicans…
