One by one, the sports universe’s biggest names are phoning in to go down memory lane with Francesca and Russo …about the first time they heard Mike & The Mad Dog…the first time they met Mike or Chris…the incredible impact The Brothers Of Bombast have had on, uh, I don’t know, condescension as an art-form? Verbal Diarrhea as a radio format? What time does Mushnick call in?
i was subjected to this at work. by far, the nadir was when rudy giuliani called in. (although at least he wasn’t there — those teeth! my eyes!)
actually, the interview with Bobby Valentine wasn’t bad, especially the part when the former Mets manager was asked if he’d ever manage in the big leagues again and he replied “I am in the big leagues”. V went onto predict that MLB would have its own Japanese-based league (with players being moved back and forth from North America) within 10 years, and that said organization would somehow take part in the MLB post-season. A bold and/or insane prediction, but it certainly was more provocative than the ass-kissing fest that took place for the rest of the program.
but really, the heck with the Bobby V. chat. What’s really fascinating is that Maura’s comment is evidence that Mike & The Mad Dog have a listener that is a) gainfully employed and b) female. These are both startling revelations that should only serve to hike their ad rates even higher into the stratosphere.
stopped listening to wfan when Benigno went to the mornings. But i’ll go back if they give Somers an actual slot, or when hockey starts, whichever comes first. not that they ever talk hockey. Benigno used to say “…is the number, talk about whatever you want in the world of sports”, which is great if you think football, football, football, football, baseball and basketball constitutes “the world of sports”
well, before the feminine hygiene marketers jump on the yes network’s enzyte-crammed bandwagon, i should mention that i’m not watching mike and dog by choice. it’s either this or the perpetual espnews loop in the newsroom…
(also, the butt-kissing is continuing today, albeit from people with lower profiles in the sports talk universe)
