Major League Baseball has agreed to endorse the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund in Bringing Baseball to Vietnam, announced Major League Baseball Commissioner Allan H. (Bud) Selig and Memorial Fund Founder and President Jan C. Scruggs.

Co-hosts Jan Scruggs and Major League pitcher Danny Graves will travel with delegates to various points of interest in Vietnam from January 16 through 25, 2006. Highlights will include the dedication of the first official little league baseball field site in Dong Ha Town, Quang Tri Province, and a baseball clinic conducted by Graves (above) to teach local young people how to play the game. Louisville Slugger, a subsidiary of Hillerich & Bradsby, has provided a substantial donation of equipment.

Years from now, Vietnam’s struggles in international competition will be traced back to the fateful decision to have their young players tutored by Saigon native Danny Graves.
