Am I the only person who suspects Tom McCarthy got the Mets’ WFAN gig mostly because he sounds sort of like Gary Cohen if you’re not paying close attention? No disrespect intended towards McCarthy, who seems competent enough, but the overwhelming impression I’m left with after a week of games is..well, it sure seems like Gary Cohen is letting Ed Coleman do most of the talking.
Though the Mets’ radio chores have been left in capable hands, the temptation to look back on the amazing tenure of Bob Murphy was irresistable for the characters behind the Metsblog-hosted A Year Of Happy Recaps.
For a brand of Mets nostalgia of an entirely different sort, you might want to check this out. Granted, it doesn’t have the pulsating soundtrack of 2K6 Baseball, but you can’t beat the play-by-play.
I have actually thought the exact same thing about McCarthy so you’re definitely not the only one. And while he’s no Gary Cohen, I think he’s done an at least passable job thus far. However, when compared to Sterling and Waltman over in Yankeeland, just about anyone can sound good. I think Gorilla Moonson used less hyperbole.
