The New York Post’s Lenn Robbins reports Doh’lan Inc.’s WNBA entry, the New York Liberty, have sold space on the front of their game jerseys to the Mashantucket Pequot Indian tribe’s Foxwoods Casino.  With a presumably straight face, Robbins suggests an old Liberty jersey, “might be worth a little more than what you purchased it for.”

Sources familiar with the deal told The Post that the Liberty will continue to sell the old jerseys until they run out of stock. The franchise is hoping to have the new jerseys in for the June 11 home game against the Atlanta Dream. If not, the jerseys, manufactured by adidas, should be in for the June 18 game against Seattle.

Brandon Steiner, the CEO of memorabilia giant Steiner Sports, told The Post that he didn’t know the switch from Liberty to Foxwoods would have a huge impact on the value of the jersey. Steiner said a jersey from the team’s first season held the most value.

“The Liberty (do) very well among WNBA teams,” Steiner said. “The most important factor is the player’s jersey. But if they stop selling the Liberty jersey and there’s still a demand for them, that could be a factor.”

A quick peak at eBay reveals a pair of Rebecca Lobo Liberty jerseys (prices ranging from $6-$9) and a medium Theresa Witherspoon jersey for $11.99.  Clearly, this is the investment opportunity of a lifetime.
