(Editor’s Note : A panel of exactly one brilliant person was convened to compile the lists shown below ; perhaps CSTB’s former contributors have some opinions on these matters, but frankly, they can all go die (until I need their help with something, anyway). Perhaps one of the national struggling outlets they’re writing for is eager to publish an essay about some grotesque festival gig or a reunion of a band that sucked from day one.
As in past years, projects from labels that either pay the CSTB bandwidth bill or directly contribute to the growing neglect of CSTB are ineligible. A version of this list was previously published elsewhere. If you’re seeing it for the second time today, congrats — at least you’re not reading The Hard Times – GC)

by all means, Kris, get cracking on your list
Well, if I did want to spend my time making a list, it would certainly not include 97% white rock music aping punk music that stopped being interesting about 30 years ago, as yours does.
I’d probably start with the new Flying Saucer Attack, or maybe the Lera Lynn songs from True Detective 2, though neither includes distorted power chords and someone screaming shitty anti-authority lyrics while simultaneously trying to make it in the music biz.
“Well, if I did want to spend my time making a list, it would certainly not include 97% white rock music aping punk music that stopped being interesting about 30 years ago, as yours does. ”
oh boy. how precisely do Obnox, 75 Dollar Bill, Joan Shelley, Ultimate Painting, Waxahatchee, The Lloyd Pack, Mint Mile, Icepick, Anthony Pasquarosa, Dan Melchoir, Wrekmeister Harmonies or Xylouris White fit even the loosest version of “white rock music aping punk music”? Putting stylistic biases aside for just a minute and concentrating solely on math, the above examples constitute a whopping 27.083333333333332% percent of my list. So there you go, my list is less than three quarters white rock music aping punk music that stopped being interesting 30 years ago.
In any event, I thank you for your feedback. There’s no one I’d rather be lectured to about things that stopped being interesting 30 years ago than someone championing a new Flying Saucer Attack record.
I’m pretty certain this is the first time anyone’s accused the Homostupids of trying to make it in the music biz, so at least history’s been made.
Kris….you had me at “True Detective 2”
Is Kris the same dude who said the Saints sounded like the Stooges-lite?
I believe that was someone you were in correspondence with.
Yes, it was. Just seems like these two would get along. (If for no other reason than no one else can stand them.)
No “Best re-issues?”
