With the Dodgers trailing Atlanta 11-6 today in the top of the 8th, 2B Jeff Kent came to the plate with none out and Jose Cruz Jr. on 3rd and J.D. Drew on 2nd.

With a 2-0 count, Kent took a called first strike.

“That shows you what kind of player Jeff Kent is,” exclaimed Rick Sutcliffe. “He could’ve possibly hit a ground ball to the right side, collected an RBI and gotten paid a little bit more money. But he knows the Dodgers are trailing in this game and need baserunners.”

“Jeff Kent’s made a lot of money in this game,” Sutcliffe continued. “He’s put up some big numbers, but at this stage of his career, he’s all about winning.”

Two pitches later, with the count 3-1 and Los Angeles trailing by 5 and none out, Lt. Dangle popped up to short on a pitch somewhere between his eyes and the top of his batting helmet.

If you were wondering which would come first, the release of ‘Chinese Democracy’ or Mike Piazza’s first HR at Petco, the suspense is over.
