With the Premiership title race pretty much done and dusted —- though the occasion of Arsenal’s visit to Old Trafford tomorrow should be watchable enough — there’s still plenty to play for in the lower divisions. Sheffield United’s automatic promotion hopes received a major boost earlier today when a late goal from David Unsworth (above) snapped a 2-2 deadlock with Hull City.
Hull are still fuming over referee Phil Crossely’s whistle-swallowing routine after Stuart Green was cut down by United’s Paddy Kenny ; City manager Peter Taylor described it as “a tackle (Rugby League’s) Hull FC would’ve been proud of” and while tonight’s Sky replay shows that to be a slight exaggeration (ie., I think Hull FC would prefer that Kenny take on a proper weight training program), his side deserved the penalty just the same.
