The San Francisco Chronicle’s Susan Slusser reports that the Red Sox and A’s have agreed to exchange disgruntled OF Jay Payton for sidearm reliever Chad Bradford (above).
Slusser points out that Payton, who supposedly squabbled with Terry Francona after being removed from Wednesday night’s game, provides some insurance in the event Mark Kotsay or Eric Byrnes are dealt in the days ahead.
