Former Cards/Red Sox reprobate Bernie Carbo is on something of a media tour these days, first telling the Boston Globe his dramatic 8th inning 3-run HR off Rawly Eastwick during the 6th game of the 1975 World Series was hit while high, and more recently, professing to ESPN’s “Outside The Lines” he once tried to put a goon-hit on former teammate Keith Hernandez.
Carbo tells OTL that he wants to apologize to Keith for introducing the 1979 NL co-MVP to cocaine. It’s a noble enough sentiment, particularly as that particular incident might’ve led Hernandez down a slippery slope to all sorts of substance abuse, not limited to food products.
Classy guy.
