St. Louis pitching phenom circa 2000, Rick Anikel was placed on waivers today by the Cardinals, just weeks after announcing his intention to take up the outfield.
Ankiel’s roster spot was claimed by former Mets/Long Island Duck pitcher Bill Pulsipher (above), whose own tumultuous career might provide worthy inspiration to uh….Rick Ankiel.
The Cardinals spoiled the Astros’ home opener earlier tonight, beating Houston 7-3 behind homers from Reggie Sanders, Jim Edmonds and Larry Walker. Chris Carpenter held Houston to 1 run and 4 hits over 7 innings, walking none.
