From the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel’s Bob Wolfey :
A reporter for Fox Sports Net Midwest, the cable channel that carries St. Louis Cardinals games, was disciplined for calling the Milwaukee Brewers “overrated” in a piece that was put up on the Busch Stadium video board when the teams played earlier this season.
According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, FSN Midwest reporter Jim Hayes (above) was barred from a St. Louis-to-Pittsburgh trip because Cardinals manager Tony La Russa was angered by Hayes’ remark. Hayes apologized to La Russa and some others in the Cardinals’ organization, the newspaper said.
The Brewers played in St. Louis on April 10, 12 and 13. The Brewers were 5-1 when they faced host St. Louis on April 10. The Cardinals were 3-3 before that game. St. Louis took the first two games of the series before dropping the finale.
FSN Midwest is in discussions with the club “about obtaining the team’s entire local TV package next season,” according to the Post-Dispatch, which might have made the company particularly sensitive to La Russa’s concern.
