….the Secret Service could be watching. If you were wondering why members of the University of Texas football team were conspicuous by their absensce from Tuesday’s night’s election party at the Sidebar, perhaps some of them were occupied with the exciting world of online social networking. Buck Burnette (above), backup center for no. 5 Texas was booted from the squad yesterday for an undisclosed violation of team rules. The Fanhouse’s Will Brinson reports Burnette’s big goof was updating his Facebook status to read, “”all the hunters gather up, we have a #$%&er in the whitehouse”.
Did Burnett actually write “#$%&er“? As of this morning, his Facebook profile seems to have been deleted. Later today, Burnette lent some credibility to the allegations, with the following letter of apology, as quoted in the Austin American-Statesman :
I sinned against man and God posting what I did. That statement breeds hate and it was never my intention to cause those controversial feelings. The people who know me and know my heart will know this to be true. I have received tremendous support from both black and white players on my team and for that I am truly grateful. For those that remain offended, I hope that over time you will be able to forgive me.
What I wrote on Facebook was a horrible immature mistake. I have no racial feelings towards anyone especially the President Elect of the United States of America. I am proud to call myself an American and I look forward to the progress that President Obama will bring to the people of this great nation. I wish and pray for President Obama to have tremendous success as our president.
(ADDENDUM : here’s a screen shot of Burnette’s Facebook profile, seemingly edited after the shit hit the fan. Image link taken from World Of Issac.)
Some black kid in Staten Island claims he was beaten while being mocked with the phrase “this is for Obama.” My wife is calling bullshit, but I carefully pointed out that according to electoral maps that show the county by county breakdown, our own little slice of the deep south actually voted a majority for McCain. SI is an interesting place (by ‘interesting’ I really mean disgusting). They tried hard to secede from the 5 boroughs within the past two decades and the real controversy in my mind is why the hell anybody would want them to be a part of NYC to begin with. Even New Jersey doesn’t deserve these sick fucks.
But I have a serious question: if this fuckface had said “spearchucker” or “jig-a-boo” (and not the “magic word”), would he STILL be on the team??
Just asking…
I’m gonna guess either of those slurs would’ve resulted in his being bounced.
