Charlie Ward has been an assistant coach for the Houston Rockets, and he won the Heisman Trophy as a quarterback for Florida State. Now he’ll try his hand as an assistant high school basketball coach.
Ward, who won the Heisman in 1993, has been hired by Westbury Christian High School in Houston as an assistant coach for the varsity boys basketball team.
“My goal is to become a head coach somewhere,” Ward said Thursday. “This is a very good stepping stone for me.
“He brings great passion and humility to us,” Greg Glenn, Westbury Christian’s head of school, told Houston television station KRIV. “I have never met someone who is so unassuming given what he has accomplished.”
I’m sure I join all CSTB readers in wishing Ward all the best in his new career, and I’m confident he’ll have no trouble at all finding employ in the pros before long. After all, it’s not as though there are any influential Jews in the NBA.
