You wouldn’t think a songwriter as unprolific as the Strokes’ Julian Casablancas (a mere 4 albums in 11 years) would be the first person to volunteer to compose a new song for the New York Mets, but let’s not look a gift horse in the mouth. For starters, “Meet The Mets”, with it’s ancient allusions to a torn-down stadium, has as much relevance to the current vibe in Flushing as John Maine. Secondly, it’s not as though anyone can possibly think of another qualified artist to write and record such a tune. I’m pretty confident I speak on behalf of all CSTB readers when I say we cannot wait to hear what Mr. Casablancas comes up with, just as soon as Bill Popp & The Tapes have completed their new fight song for the Hartford Colonials.
William Bennett would seem to be a more appropriate choice if you are concerned with matching the vibe of recent Mets teams.
