Asked why he didn’t personally call a timeout when the Colts didn’t get the reaction they’d hoped for, Pagano didn’t offer a direct answer. He also didn’t specify what the instructions were to his players as it relates to aborting the play when it became obvious it would not work.
“The design was to actually maybe get (the Patriots) to burn a timeout that they might need at the end of the game, or catch them with too many men on the field,” Pagano said. “It didn’t work out that way.”
Asked how he reacted to the loss – his fifth against the Patriots since 2012 – and it’s clear it hit hard.
Pagano said he was sure to “stay away from sharp objects.”
