From Kirk Bohl’s in this morning’s Austin American-Statesman :
In his terrific new book, “Swing Your Sword,” Mike Leach raves about his former strength and conditioning coach Benny Wylie (above), who worked for him at Texas Tech from 2003 to 2009 and who is now shaping up the Longhorns. Leach writes that Wylie has “a militaristic approach” and used unconventional methods such as instructing the Tech players to be at a morning workout at 3:57 a.m. because they’d be more likely to remember the odd time. In addition, they used innovative but effective techniques such as the “Tower of London” drill for those who missed class. Sleepy-headed Red Raiders would have to run around campus carrying cinder-block bricks over their heads and when they ran by the English building, for example, Wylie would make the players name two Shakespeare plays. Smart stuff and a great hire by Mack Brown.
There’s absolutely no truth to the rumor that since his hiring at Texas, Wylie will now accept any two songs by the Kamikaze Refrigerators or the Cherubs in lieu of a Shakespeare work.
