(the unsympathetic Lady CSTB says there’s no excuse for Nomar pulling the cum face in public)
I don’t know if Carlos Zambrano is still giving the press the Steve Carlton treatment, but an Albert Puljos solo shot aside, he was flawless against the Cardinals last night. The bigger concern for the Cubs this morning is the fate of SS Nomar Garciaparra, who was carried off the field in the throes of groin-tastic pain. Given that the former Red Sox superstar is toiling with a one-year deal, his rejection of a 4 year, $60 million extension from Boston prior to the 2004 season might rank amongst the bigger blunders in recent memory.
Nomar can at least take comfort in the fact that he’s making $8M this years, while Juan Gonzalez, who turned $140M from the Tigers in 2000, is making 600K with the Indians.
sure thing, Nick. But Juan Gone has made about $86 million in his career to date, almost twice as much as Nomar. He’s 4 years older, too.
Gonzalez and Comerica Park were a bad fit. As were most shirts on Juan’s hulking physique. I don’t know if there’s any connection between his recent propensity for injury and looking like he could take Scott Steiner in a pose-down, but from ’91-99, Gonzalez was an offensive machine.
