Longtime Wake Forest manager George Greer has been named the new manager of the Mets’ New York Penn League affiliate Brooklyn Cyclones (short season A).

Greer, shown lifting a trophy of some sort, led Wake to three ACC titles during his 17 year tenure at the school. His qualifications also include having done nothing (that we know of) to discourage Tim Duncan from leaving early, as well as (most importantly) Not Being Wally Backman.

Mets.com is promising a web chat with Darryl Strawberry tomorrow afternoon between 3:30-4:30pm. Between this, the Amy Fisher story and the Walter Berry sightings, Monday is begining to take on a very Learn To Hate In The ’80’s vibe. I realize the Buttafuoco case happened in ’92, but Joey’s haircut was very 1986.
