From MLB.com’s Carrie Muskat.
Cubs officials said on Monday that Dusty Baker would not be offered a contract extension with the Chicago Cubs following the 2006 season in which they finished with the worst record in the National League at 66-96.
“Without a doubt, there’s no justice,” Juan Pierre said. “He got blamed for guys’ injuries, the way we played on the field and doing the little things wrong. To hear fans booing him, it’s sad. He shouldn’t get blamed. If you had Joe Torre or one of the best managers in here, and all the stuff we’ve been through, they probably would’ve lost with the way we’ve played this year.”
Alou is out in S.F., do you think they’ll swap managers again?
the possibility of Dusty returning to SF has already been floated out there — if he can kiss and make up with Peter Magowan, etc.
so we’ll have vacancies in SF, Florida, Chicago and DC for certain. KC and Texas seem likely to make changes, too. In Seattle, Mike Hargrove has snapshots of the inventor of Super Mario doing it with a goat, so he’s safe.
By Wednesday morning, there will be at least one newspaper article quoting Whitey Herzog as saying he’d be interested in one of the above positions.
By Friday, there will be at least one newspaper article quoting Bobby Valentine reminding us how content he is managing in Japan.
No justice? C’mon Juan, we all know the type of iron-fisted / medieval punishment that should be bestowed on any man that gives Knife Perez 800+ ABs over a two year period. And this goes even beyond the invisible klansman underneath his bed.
Why is no one hiring Davey Johnson?
re : Davey
a) health issues
b) he’s busy with the Dutch under 21 squad
c) zipper issues
d) Frank Cashen has used his considerable influence to blackball Davey
e) potential suitors won’t accept Bobby Bonilla as Davey’s bench coach
f) all of the above
g) none of the above
You left out h) he wants to spend more time with his family. What is that code for, anyway? I’ve never met anybody that ever wanted to spend more time with their goddamned family.
you’ve not partied with the Van Gundys, apparently.
Juan Pierre told the truth, “Without a doubt, there’s no justice.”
Rog, the idea of Felipe coming to Chicago feels like a longshot after they fired his son, Moises, not to mention how Tribco treated all the SF talent who came over with Dusty. One can only hope that the angry God tormenting the Republican party these days will also give some more attention to the Tribune Co., the GOP’s biggest mouthpiece in the Midwest, until they let my team go. Tribco mismanaged the Cubs, the LA TIMES, fired Steve Stone, gave Dennis Miller a talk show, allowed Jimmy Buffett to play Wrigley (but not Maddux!), and the motherfuckers even cancelled Bozo. As Mr. Pierre so eloquently phrased it, “Without a doubt, there’s no justice.”
I wish I could just rattle off a couple of key positions we need reinforced like I did last year around this time. Dudty didn’t manage well with what he had, but then, with Prior-Wood sucking up money and Maddux traded and Derrek Lee’s wrist broken — what was he going to do to make the 2006 Cubs a contender? The only thing that’s going to change it is new ownership. Since the Cubs last Series appearance in WW II, they’ve had two owners — Wrigely and the Trib, 60 years of suckage. So, yeah, fire Dusty, because the buck stops with him.
At least the Sox choked this year. I knew they just got lucky last year.
