Earlier today, Tigers starter Justin Verlander became the first AL Cy Young Award winner to claim the MVP trophy since Dennis Eckersley in 1992. While one Ohio scribe considered Verlander ineligible for the latter honor, the Dallas Morning News’ Evan Grant became the roast of the twittersphere for selecting the Rangers’ Michael Young as his top choice for Most Valuable Trade-Demander Player. By the end of Monday afternoon, Grant saw fit to justify his vote. If you were cynical enough to believe a crazy ballot would be compiled for the sole purpose of generating web traffic, shame on you. In Grant’s case, there’s a far more noble intention ; increasing paid subscriptions to his newspaper.
