Former Giants/Orioles hurler Sidney Ponson walked out of a Baltimore jail yesterday after serving a 5 day stretch for D.U.I.

The AP reported last week that Ponson’s attorney had requested his client be placed in protective custody during his short sentence.

Said request seems perfectly reasonable. Certain types of prisoners are especially vulnerable to attack from the rest of the general population. Amongst child molestors, crooked cops and muggers of old ladies, pitchers who steal money from Peter Angelos are thought to be the most at risk.
