These may be the Dog Days Of August, and the Mets might be trailing the Phillies, 4-0 in the 3rd (1 HR, 3 RBI’s for Ryan Howard), but every now and then, WFAN’s Howie Rose is the best in show.
When Rose mentioned that Brian Bannister’s hamstring injury ushered in “the Jose Lime /Geremi Gonzalez era,” Tom McCarthy confessed that he’d tried to place Gonzalez’ name last night and failed.
“That’s because you didn’t know whether to spell it with a ‘J’ or ‘G’,” snorted Howie. “How old is he…you’d think by the time someone hits their 30’s they’d have figured it out.”
“Perhaps,” murmured McCarthy, “he wanted to wipe the slate clean.”
“I think the time for that has long since passed,” insisted Rose. “If it was that easy, I’d spell my name with a ‘W’.”
