Days after having to eat shit apologize to Urban Meyer over an alleged recruiting violation newly ensconced Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin (above) is facing criticism from his own employers after the University revealed a pair of ill-advised stunts. From the Tennessean’s Bryan Mullen :
The first incident occurred when a fog machine was used as a recruit entered Neyland Stadium during a visit. In the second incident, nine prospects who were visiting took part in a mock press conference at the media center inside Neyland Stadium.Under NCAA rules, schools are prohibited from simulating a game experience for recruits during official visits. Recruiting coordinator Ed Orgeron was also issued a letter of admonishment.
UT All-America safety Eric Berry said Kiffin’s brash demeanor is having a positive effect on players.
“It’s great to have a coach (who) has so much confidence is us,” Berry said. “… He’s making us feel we can compete with anyone. He has raised the bar on and off the field.”
I saw he had to apologize to a HS coach for some other comments too. I forget who said it, I think it was one of the SI.com guys, but he’s actually making Al Davis look like a good judge of character.
Of course it’s a relief to know the NCAA continues to closely regulate fog machines.
