Musican, painter, and writer Kevin Coyne passed away this past Thursday at his home in Nuremeburg, Germany. Coyne, 60, who had suffered from lung fibrosis in recent years, was last seen around these parts in October when he took part in the “Three Britscher Cowboys” exhibition at Austin’s Yard Dog Folk Art, along with Jon Langford and Rico Bell.
Very sorry Kevin Coyne’s gone to meet his maker. Mind you it could be worse. He could be going to the Melody Maker! I remember John Peel playing ‘Millionaires and Teddy Bears’ when it was released. I vaguely remember The Ruts being his backing group after Malcolm Owen died. The rest was a haze until I stumbled upon a Belgian LP called ‘Beautiful Extremes’ in Brussells in 2002. This spurred to investigate this fascinating talent further. I’ll be kept busy for many years to come. He was quite prolific I believe!
Thanks Kevin
