I’m not gonna say I told you so, because I did no such thing. But anyone shocked by Korea’s 7-3 win last night over Team USA hasn’t been paying attention to the quality of the former’s pitching in this tournament, or the hitting prowess of Seuong Yeop Lee, an early front runner for WBC MVP.
Will Leitch, who presumably watches a baseball game a few times a year, claims “the much maligned Hee Seop Choi is beating the piss out of the world’s pitchers.”
Hee Seop (above) is hitting .235 thus far, with one HR (last night’s, off Houston’s Dan Wheeler) and two RBI’s. Apparently, there’s a new standard for “beating the piss”.
For the 2nd consecutive WBC start, Dontrelle Willis was brutally ineffective. Were these outings taking place against players Nationals or Orioles players unlikely to make their major league rosters, no one would make much of it. But if the WBC represents a mere spring training outing for any of Team USA’s pitchers, that might be an indicator why so many others refused to take part. Perhaps they didn’t want to be embarrassed?
Maybe he meant “shaking the piss?”
