(With the score 20-11 in favor of New York, Piniella considers texting Joe Torre and asking his rival to pull his regulars before someone trips and hurts themselves running around the bases).
After watching last night’s highlights of the Devils Rays blowing an 11-3 lead…and the Yankees clubbing 4 HR’s en route to a 13 run (!) 8th inning, I can’t help but wonder if Lou Piniella hasn’t already begun his latest tenure working for George Steinbrenner. How else to explain Lou’s pitching staff dusting off various Red Sox hitters, yet doing everything short of putting the ball on a tee for Gary Sheffield, A-Rod and Hideki Matsui?
i was waiting for it; after sheffield homered again and arod came up i thought, “surely now?” and cringed in anticipation. and then to not do it at all… ha, in the picture he looks like a zoo animal longing to be on the other side of the cage: i think it’s a matter of not caring anymore or wanting to keep his job options open or both.
Not to mention intentionally walking Giambi with runners on second and third up 11-10 in the 8th to face Bernie Williams with the bases loaded. Whoops.
