(none of these men is a rapist or killer. I think.)
Hours before the Dodgers took the field at Chavez Ravine against the Padres, Manny Ramirez visited his teammates for the second time recently, the suspended outfielder’s comments causing Jon Wiseman to sigh, “I didn’t count on him as a role model before, and I’m not about to start now. From the Press-Enterprise’s Michael Becker :
“I come to say hi to the guys,” Ramirez said. “I’m just happy to be back, man.”
Ramirez refused to talk about the circumstances surrounded his suspension.
“Whatever happened, that’s in the past,” he said. “I don’t want to be a distraction to this team. I didn’t kill nobody. I didn’t rape nobody. That’s it.”
OK, he’s no Stuart Smalley (or even Vince Coleman) but “I didn’t kill nobody. I didn’t rape nobody” should probably go down in clubhouse history as the ultimate in accountability-dodging soundbytes. Unless…Manny, in typically cryptic style, was instead dropping a rather blatant hint he has a teammate or opponent who IS a killer or rapist.
With his improper grammar, he actually said the he DID kill someone and he DID rape someone. A case for higher education? I think so.
