WFAN afternoon host Mike Francesa — enraged that the @mikefrancesaNY parody account continues to generate media attention — took to the airwaves Tuesday, threatening to name and shame his tormentors.  From the New York Daily News’ Bernie Augustine :

“If the Daily News is going to start taking quotes of different personalities and then using fake Twitter quotes with my name on it — first of all folks, I’ve told you before, I don’t have a Twitter account. But they allow fake ones,” Francesa rambled on Tuesday. “But there’s one that has my name on it, which the Daily News purports, like they put them next to real quotes and act like it’s a real quote from me. So, if it’s one that is either offensive or makes me look bad, they don’t care. They say, ‘Hey, that’s your quote.’”

Luckily for the over 26,000 followers who enjoy @MikeFrancesaNY — and the 1,000 who joined the party after the Pope’s rant — the two tweeters, who prefer remain anonymous, are not afraid of the Sports Pope’s threats.

In an exclusive statement to the Daily News, they said, “Mike Francesa is a New York institution. A measly parody Twitter account is not going to tarnish his legacy. We never have and never will pretend to be Mike as anyone can see from the word ‘FAKE’ in our bio and the way we type. If someone confuses us as the official Mike Francesa Twitter account, ‘youah in Nevah Nevah Land, ok!”
