Following the most recent capitulation by the Baltimore bullpen, ESPN’s Buster Olney is reporting the Orioles have hired former Cubs president Andy McPhail as their new chief operating officer, and have already scheduled an interview with former Marlins skipper Joe Girardi.
I’m presuming they’ll not be offering Girardi the MASN gig currently held by Rick Dempsey.
The Baltimore Sun’s Roch Kubatko writes the O’s Kevin Millar has called a players-only meeting for later today, but not before scolding the local scribes.
“Next time you guys come in here after a team’s lost, let’s try not to have a party. Have respect for the guys who have battled out there for three hours. Just a common courtesy,” said Miller, who also was fuming after striking out as a pinch hitter in the ninth with two runners in scoring position.
“I know this isn’t a big media market, but common courtesy when a team’s struggled this long. Chill out a little bit. Show respect for the other players.”
Who amongst us wouldn’t love to see some YouTube video of Kubatko and colleagues exchanging high fives and spraying beer on each other after another Baltimore defeat, as Millar, Miggy, et al, stood by and seethed?
