– The San Diego Padres today acquired first baseman Adrian Gonzalez, outfielder Terrmel Sledge and right-handed pitcher Chris Young from the Texas Rangers in exchange for right-handed pitchers Adam Eaton and Akinori Otsuka and minor league catcher Billy Killian.
Sledge, as you’ll recall, recently came to the Rangers as part of the Alfonso Soriano deal. The lefthanded first baseman Gonzalez, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2000 draft, hit .338 with 18 homers and 65 RBIs in 326 at-bats for the PCL’s Oklahoma Red Hawks last season.
The Marlins have signed reliever Kerry Ligtenberg to a minor league contract.
