Having hit 458 RBI’s over the past 4 years 3B Aramis Ramirez has signed a 4 year contract extension with the Cubs worth some $42 million. Said deal includes a vesting option worth $11 million if Ramirez appears in 270 games between 2008 and 2009.

As I write this, Jim Hendry is up in the WGN booth with the new b’casters talking up how much dough he just spent on Ramirez. Apparently, Hendry’s son told him “Dad, just make sure Ramiriez stays a Cub.” Is that all it takes for the Cubs to make a deal? How about a closer, junior? How about Alou? Until Ramirez signed, getting Levy’s hot dog franchise into Wrigley was the biggest off-season deal the Hendry Family made.
Anyway, I can’t complain, the Cubs are up 7-0 over the Diamondbacks, so I don’t feel I’m going too far out on a limb by predicting a Cub four-game sweep of the World Series.
Ben
I heard that Hendry let his kid negotiate Nomar’s one year deal. And he didn’t do a bad job, either.
Ben, I just ordered you one of those Cubs “I Believe” bracelets. That’s your birthday present. I know its no smoking jacket, but maybe next xmas?
Those tsunami and cancer victims can just fuck right off — I’m telling my accountant that believing in the Cubs is way more important.
Laugh it up, I hear Hendry’s kid OK’d Nomar’s knee and Dusty made him the clubhouse trainer, so expect big improvements this season.
My believing aside, Zambrano lasted but 4.2 innings and the Cubs gave up 12 hits and 6 runs to the Diamondbacks. So, while I’m happy with the win, that’s not an awesome game in anyone’s book, even “alleged author”* Jose Canseco’s.
