In which The Yonkers Cowboy asks the slightly-loaded question, “where is the Katie Couric of sports?” Congratulations, Doris Burke, Jackie MacMullan, Emma Span and Maggie Hendricks just to name four female members of the sports media off the top of my head. Your motives for working in your chosen field, your qualifications and your ability to “hold an audience” have been challenged by Talkers Magazine’s #98 SPORTS YACK HOST. Who could possibly know more about capturing the public’s imagination than a guy holding down that most coveted of satellite radio time-slots, the hours during which nearly all sane sports fans are watching or listening to a game?
I’ve listened to the Dino Costa Show on a few occassions. I’ve found him to be egotistical, moronic and loud. However, I’ve noticed that he’s turned up the heat in the lately as I’ve tuned in–by mistake–twice in the last month. He is clearly racist and now he can add misogynist to the adjectives which one could use to describe him.
The most pathetic thing about him is that he clearly tunes into the Rush Limbaugh show every morning and simply attempts to emulate him. Even down to the moronic “te he he” laugh he does as in the midst of one of his not-so-veiled racist or sexist rants. Here’s the bad news for Costa: Rush is making millions to read what Exxon, the Tea Party and the coal producing companies want him to read. Costa is getting paid minimum wage to do the same for free. And….oh yeah….he’s supposed to be doing SPORTS talk radio.
Talk about a joke.
By “for free” I’m simply stating that he’s not getting a little extra on the side from any of large corporation to be a mouth piece. Clearly he’s making (almost no) money so he’s not working for free.

I take it you weren’t impressed with the Cheyenne coupon shopper’s picture of Dino in his new home studio. For a guy quick to tell a listener, “go back to podcasting”, there’s something almost sub-Mom’s basement about the Yonkers Cowboy’s current set up. All that’s lacking is an autographed pic of Imus in the background.
The Rush Limbaugh wannabe of sports radio has clearly gone full-tilt religious right-wing political pundit and sports are just a means to parrot Limbaugh and proselytize for his religion. He’s clearly aggrieved at being a small time sports talk hack and he’s obviously using his current gig to build a core audience of religious right sycophants in sufficient numbers to keep him employed and moving them over to his next gig – the fantasy dream gig of taking over from Limbaugh.

I suspect something more podcast-y / subscription style is in the offing. And to be perfectly fair, I don’t actually believe Dino is only targeting those who share his faith. As long as callers and tweeters pay sufficient homage to Dino, he’ll happily take their patronage.
