Entercom announced earlier today a pair of additions to the Boston Red Sox radio broadcast booth ; joining 25 year vet Joe Castiglione and newly hired Glenn Geffner (most recently with San Diego) is longtime ESPN baseball fixture Dave O’Brien.

O’Brien came to what we’ll politely call considerable prominence this summer when his duties as ESPN/ABC’s no. 1 play-by-play voice for the 2006 World Cup came under intense scrutiny.
At the time, O’Brien defended his “story-telling” efforts as having run afoul of “a petulant…antsy clique,” revealing that he’s got the perfect temperment for dealing with Boston’s easygoing fanbase and their perfectly reasonable standards.
