In what can only be considered a desperate attempt by Mets brass to distract attention from Saturday’s Spoon-headlined Siren Festival at Coney Island, Darryl Strawberry will be in uniform for the Brooklyn Cyclones this weekend in some sort of vague coaching capacity.

Darryl will join Tim Teufel, Howard Johnson and current Cyclones skipper Mookie Wilson (subject of this Saturday’s Bobblehead Night) as members of the ’86 Mets who have either coached or managed in Brooklyn. With Gary Carter currently managing the parent club’s St. Lucie affiliate (FSL) and John Franco scrambing for work, one can only conclude that unless he’s willing to operate The Zipper, Wally Backman won’t be employed at Coney Island anytime soon.
