Though Bruce Pearl is the Tennessee coach who garnered an SI profile this week lauding his close relationship with his charges, consider the laudatory words of Vols football chieftan Phillip Fulmer, who told the Tennessean’s Bryan Mullen, “The players are smart guys. They’re college students.”  Tennessee and Mississippi State just kicked off, and I challenge anyone reading this to disprove Fulmer’s claim.  At least the second half of it.

If Colt McCoy could face Gene Chizik’s defense every week, he’d be a Heisman candidate for sure.  That’s true of everyone else in the Big 12, however, so perhaps I’ll save that can of Blatz for a really special occasion.

Penn State RB Austin Scott was arraigned Friday on charges of rape, sexual assault and two counts of aggravated indecent assault. I’m too busy watching Texas run up the score on Iowa State to check, but presumably Joe Paterno found something to say about Scott’s situation besides “A cute girl knocks on the door. What do you do?”

(UPDATE : Texas 56, Iowa State 3, face rapes 1).
