Though Andruw Jones managed to stop a 0-for-28 drought last night with an RBI double in Atlanta’s 6-2 win over Philadelphia, something else came to mind afterwards (other than Danny Kolb not blowing a save). Has Bobby Cox pulled the plug for keeps on the Raul Mondesi and Brian Jordan experiments, and if not, why not?
Ryan Langerhans and Pete Orr started in right and left field respectively for Atlanta, though truth be told, you’d rather have Bobby Orr (on skates) than Mondesi or Jordan at this point.
Bobby Cox went with Jordan and Mondesi tonight and both of them had decent nights at the plate in Atlantas drubbing of the Phlopping Phils (although Mondesis RBI single came off of the mericifully-soon to-be-demoted Gavin Floyd). This weeks sudden offensive surges from the Mets and Braves shows that if you need to get your teams moribund bats kickstarted, the Phillies are a team that will oblige. There has been somewhat of a civil war bewteen Phillies fans who have written the team off as gutless overpaid underachievers who gave up on Larry Bowa last year and those who are giving them one last shot to gel under new management/coaching. So far, the former have the upper hand.
Rough week for Gavin Floyd. Next time, they oughta send in Gavin Friday.
