Rich’s Weekend Baseball Beat (by way of Will Carroll) mentions the likelihood of 3B Adrian Beltre signing with the Seattle Mariners as part of the site’s entertaining Winter Meetings coverage. A day earlier, the AP’s John Nadel discussed the Dodgers’ likely response.
Los Angeles Dodgers general manager Paul DePodesta believes several options will be available if star third baseman Adrian Beltre decides to play elsewhere.
“I don’t feel at this point we’re going to be left standing without a chair when the music stops,” DePodesta said Saturday night at baseball’s winter meetings.
That being said, DePodesta remains hopeful Beltre will return, despite the high price tag required to keep him.
The Dodgers have expressed interest in third baseman Corey Koskie, a free agent the Minnesota Twins are hoping to keep.
“We’ve talked in principal on some things,” DePodesta said. “I’ve said all along we’d love to have Adrian back. I’ve also said we’d like to be covered, too.”
DePodesta said the Dodgers might be faced with needing to make a decision on Koskie before Beltre decides what he’s going to do, adding Koskie might not wait that long.
