Writes Ben,
“Cubs open road to October with rout of Reds,” is the modest headline on the Cubs homepage this evening. Yeah, when your Opening Day starter gives up 5 runs and has to leave the game with an indecision, I’m not sure the “road to October” is going to be paved entirely with pitching and inept fielding like the Reds served up today. Other teams may actually want to contest the Cubs just coasting thru to October, but who knows? By the way, WGN’s coverage of the Cubs-Reds season opener in Cincinnati today was sponsored in part by the Illinois State Lottery — kind of ironic when gambling sponsors a ball game that Reds great Pete Rose can’t legally attend.
