Yeah, I’m rubbing my eyes, too. The Boston Bruins have actually shelled out serious moolah for a sure-thing Hall Of Famer in former Rangers D Brian Leetch, inked yesterday to a one-year, $4 million deal.
Leetch, who played one season for Boston College prior to turning pro, mostly recently skated for Toronto after being traded just prior to the 2004 deadline.
C Mike Modano has rejected the Dallas Stars’ most recent offer and is said to be in talks with as many as 4 other clubs, including the Bruins. Were the Stars unable to retain Modano, the likes of Peter Forsberg, Alexei Zhamnov, Jason Allison and Pierre Turgeon are still unsigned. Or, if they’re totally crazy, they could go after Eric Lindros.
(UPDATE : Modano flip-flops, stays with Dallas as part of a 5 year, $17.5 million pact. Forsberg has signed with Philly, just a day after Adam Foote left the ‘Lanche for the Columbus Blue Jackets.)
forsberg signed with the flyers. FUCK!
Yeah, I hate the Flyers. Looks like Roenick’s days in Philly are numbered. (Modano did sign a long-term deal with Dallas, by the way.)
The Bruins giving $4 million to defenseman Leetch, who’s far from being the player that he used to be, is a bit suprising when All-Star defenseman Derian Hatcher ($3.75 mil) and tough defensive-minded forward Bobby Holik ($4.25 mil) got about the same yearly amount (though theirs’ were multi-year deals).
