Yankee reliever Brian Bruney — he of the 13-10 career mark and lifetime 4.28 era — threw one inning in a rehab assignment for the Eastern League Trenton Thunder against Binghamton last night, but still managed to catch the Mets’ epic 9th inning collapse to his parent club. Apparently, they’ve got digital TV in southern Jersey.  From the Journal News’ Peter Abraham :

“Couldn™t have happened to a better guy on the mound, either. He™s got a tired act, Bruney said of Mets closer Francisco Rodriguez. œHe gets what he deserves, man. I just don™t like watching the guy pitch. I think it™s embarrassing.

Bruney is talking about how Rodriguez celebrates after the final out. In the interest of being fair, we asked K-Rod for his response. He seemed baffled by what Bruney said.

œI don™t even know who that guy is, he said. Rodriguez seemed tempted to say more but declined further comment.

Bruney and Rodriguez have no history as far as we know.
