The Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s Dave O’Brien provides the Braves’ Chris Reitsma with a shoulder to sob on.
A few days ago, Reitsma (above) was walking in his Newnan neighborhood with his two daughters, ages 4 and 2, who were on their bikes.
“A guy pulls up in his truck,” Reitsma said, “rolls down his window and yells, ‘You suck!'”
Reitsma said he doesn’t disagree with that assessment of his performance, but hates to have his family exposed to his harshest critics.
Might it be a little presumptuous of Reitsma or O’Brien to believe the guy in the pick-up recognized the Atlanta hurler as the man responsible for 4 blown saves in 12 chances? I mean, who amongst us hasn’t at one time or another, picked out a random pedestrian for verbal abuse?
Former Met Joe McEwing, currently enjoying the fruits of the Round Rock-to-Houston shuttle (and vice versa), was recently credited with diagnosing Brad Lidge’s tendency to tip his pitches. Toiling for the PCL’s Express last night, McEwing had a grand slam and 5 RBI’s in Round Rock’s 10-4 defeat of Memphis. Though the slam came against Alan Benes, rest assured, it still counts.
