During yesterday’s 16-6 rout of the Diamondbacks, Carlos Zambrano (above) still couldn’t keep his mouth shut in order to argue balls and strikes with umpire Dale Scott. So much for Dusty’s hopes of a more circumspect, less whiny team this year.

From MLB.com’s Carrie Muskat.

Zambrano, the Cubs’ Opening Day starter, had walked Jose Cruz Jr. with the bases loaded in the Arizona fifth to force in a run when he was pulled by manager Dusty Baker. As the right-hander headed toward the Cubs dugout, he said something to Scott. The two exchanged words, and Scott signaled that Zambrano had been ejected.

“I just told [Scott] that he needed glasses and he tossed me out,” Zambrano said. “I just told him that. I didn’t say a bad word to him. I just told him that he needed glasses.”

Cleveland have announcing the signing of C Victor Martinez to a new 5 year deal, that includes the restructuring of the catcher’s 2005 deal and a club option for 2010. Martinez hit .283 for the Indians last year, with 23 HR’s and 108 RBI’s.
