From the AP comes the most disturbing story to originate in Wisconsin that doesn’t include the name “Dahmer” or any mention of the Rev. Norb Ugly.
Upset that his 7-year-old son wouldn’t wear a Green Bay Packers jersey during the team’s playoff victory Saturday, a man restrained the boy for an hour with tape and taped the jersey onto him.
Mathew Kowald (above) was cited for disorderly conduct in connection with the incident with his son at their home in Pardeeville, Lt. Wayne Smith of the Columbia County Sheriff’s Department said. Pardeeville is about 30 miles north of Madison.
The 36-year-old Kowald was arrested Monday after his wife told authorities about the incident. Kowald was taken to the county jail and held until Wednesday, when he pleaded no contest, paid a fine of $186 and was released.
The boy refused to wear the jersey Saturday, when the Packers beat the Seattle Seahawks in a playoff game, Smith said. Smith said the incident sounded strange when reported at first, but the mother took pictures with her cell phone and that type of evidence is difficult to dispute.
I expect this out of Raider, Eagle or Redskin fan, not drunken Packer fan
Bah, that’s East (and West) Coast Bias talking, Shane.
My two favorite, and probably fake statistics about Wisconsin are: incidents of spousal abuse rise by 30% during Packers games, and 10% of the brandy produced in America is consumed in Wisconsin. Having lived in Green Bay, I’m pretty sure those numbers are much higher.
The Pack won didn’t they? If Vince Lombardi were still with us, that Dad woulda been on the sidelines as asst. coach by now. Get with the program.
As for spousal abuse going up during football games — I’ve heard that for years but no one ever has the actual statistic or study to show it. Not that I don’t think spousal abuse isn’t serious and deserving of jail time, but that stat about football fans and abuse has been refuted quite a bit. Not college football players and abused women, just the fans. Then again, Packer women are tough, and I can’t believe all those fat guys tripped over a wheel of cheddar on game day …
Ben
So a Dad was arrested for taping a Green Bay Packers’ jersey to his 7 year old son, despite the kid’s protests.
What’s the problem?
It’s not like it was a Jets’ jersey.
That would be child abuse!
The DA.. of Columbia County..and the police along with the news media should have investigated the background of Matt’s wife. And they would have found she abandoned her husband Matt and 3 kids..Bailey, Tyler and Matty in Aug. 2006 to travel the country in a semi truck with her semi truck driver boyfriend. Matt’s big mistake was when the boyfriend dumped Becky..Matt took Becky back 1 year ago in Jan. 2007. She missed all the kids school events and b.days. She also has a 1st husband Dan Loveland ..and Dan has custody of Becky’s 1st son Dalton age 15 years old..and he can testify that she has falsely accuesed hm in the past. I am a close family member on Becky’s side and can verify she has left her husband for many men..she picked up at a bar or online. Call Matt 608-697-0006..so he can clear his name and tell you the truth. Becky set Matt up..she doesn’t work and she hoodwinked everyone. Becky is the one who called the news media..If you listen to Z104 Madison,Wi on Jan.17th..Becky called the producer..Abby at that radio station..and she admitted that after she took the photos that Sat. night..she left Matt and the kids to go to a bar. Matt has always been a great dad to his kids and his kids adore him. Becky on the other hand. leaves her kids alone at night while bar hopping. I have contacted the DA…the news media ..and the Associated Press……. Matt was set up. Becky and Matt filed for bankruptcy late 2007..a few months ago.
