Fascinating, nay, scintillating discussion this afternoon on ESPN Radio between Dan Patrick, Rob Dibble (above) and an unfortunate caller. Dibble insisted that regardless of a less than warm & fuzzy rep, Roger Clemens was deserving of first ballot election to the Hall Of Fame and anyone who voted otherwise didn’t deserve to have a say. When the issue of Clemens’ beaning / bat tossing towards Mike Piazza was brought up, Dibs proclaimed that the only thing that mattered was what Clemens did on the field.
Never before did I realize that Roger Clemens’ headhunting took place anywhere other than on the field. But my baseball resume doesn’t compare to Dibble’s (nor does my ‘roid abuse, but I’m willing to catch up).
Consider the source: Dribble’s also the guy who beaned Joe Girardi in the back when Girardi perfectly executed a bunt at Wrigley that Drib couldn’t handle. He’s the only pitcher I’ve seen go headhunting to the back of the skull when the batter is at first base. Lou Piniella should kick his butt again.
