Former Hanshin Tigers pitcher Hideki Irabu was arrested early Wednesday on suspicion of assaulting a bar owner in Osaka, police said.Irabu, who also played for the New York Yankees reportedly was angry and behaved violently after learning his credit card had been declined when he was paying the bill at a bar in Kita Ward, Osaka, at about 5:30 a.m.
Irabu, 39, is suspected to have seized the owner’s lapel and pushed him to a wall, police said. Police officers patrolling near the restaurant caught him in the act.
On the bright side, it’s nice to know there’s at least one person Sidney Ponson can look down his nose at. On the other hand, that’s probably one less pitcher who can be considered for the Mets bullpen.
