(and to think, some of us laughed when David introduced his new agent)

From Jon Heyman at SI.com :

Third baseman David Wright has signed a six-year extension with the New York Mets worth $55 million.

The contract also includes an option for 2013, although no further details were immediately available.

“I never would have imagined something like this when I signed in 2001. I always wanted to be a lifelong Met. I think this is the first step in that direction,” Wright said Sunday.

“It’s a special feeling growing up as a Mets fan and now knowing — knock on wood — I’m going to be a Met for the next six or seven years.”

I’m sure David never imagined he’d be a spokesperson for a feces-ingesting faith healer, either. Who knows what the next 6 years in New York will bring? Nice work by the Mets to wrap this one up, however, particularly as Wright could’ve been yet another high profile target of the independent Jersey City Snakes.
