The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Bob Brookover spoke with the Eagles’ recouperating QB and neglected to mention the Madden Cover Jinx.
Donovan McNabb may be resting his body, but his reputation in this town is still taking hits, the most recent from the NAACP’s J. Whyatt Mondesire (above). In a rambling column in the Philadelphia Sun, Mondesire wrote among other things that McNabb choked in the Super Bowl and has disrespected African Americans by not running the football. The Eagles’ quarterback said Mondesire’s remarks baffled him every bit as much as Rush Limbaugh’s comments a couple of years ago.
“Especially being the same color I am,” McNabb said. “Obviously if it’s someone else who is not African American, it’s racism. But when someone of the same race talks about you because you’re selling out because you’re not running the ball, it goes back to what are we really talking about here?
“If you talk about my play, that’s one thing. When you talk about my race, now we’ve got problems. If you’re trying to make a name off my name, again, I hope your closet is clean because something is going to come out about you … I always thought the NAACP supported African Americans and didn’t talk bad about them. Now you learn a little bit more.”
McNabb noted that many of his past detractors have lost their jobs (such as Limbaugh and Owens).
“We were laughing and joking about it a couple of days ago,” McNabb said. “Everybody that seems to take a shot at me either loses their job or more things are found out about them that they don’t want people to know. I think now people are hesitant about bringing my name out their mouth. It just seems like when I’m out there playing, they’re talking about me and when I’m not out there, they’re still talking about me. It’s unfortunate, but you have to be yourself and move on.”
What right does a white guy have to make comments about McNabb and his race, especially since he obviously has never watched a football game? This guy…….oh, you mean he’s black? No he’s not!! That’s a white guy if I’ve ever seen one!! And as far as his comments about McNabb being a leader so he should feel obligated to give away part of his bonus, how about telling the state senators and representatives to take the same approach? Instead of giving themselves raises, why don’t they give it back to us “little people” in the form of tax returns? How about leading by example, Mr. J. Whiner Mondesire? And by the way, aren’t you about due to go out for a run? You wouldn’t want to disgrace your people….
Letter to Donovan:
It’s guys like the NAACP’s J. Whyatt Mondesire that are trying desperately to make the NAACP irrelevant in our time. What an idiot. If he were half as successful in his job as you’ve been in yours black folks (and working class people in general) wouldn’t be catching so much hell in Philly right now. Perhaps the people at the NAACP should spend more time thinking about issues they’re qualified to handle, instead of worrying about professional sports stars.
Donovan’s a class guy. I’m not an Eagles fan, but I definitely enjoy watching him play. He doesn’t deserve all the garbage he’s gone through. Owens and J.Whyatt Mondesire should shut the hell up. Two total morons.
Mr.J. Whyatt Mondesire, certainly he was not an athelete or a decent one growing up. He really does not have a clue. and he calls himself black……he can kiss my black……you know the rest.
Mondesire seems to be mixinig his love for the Eagles with his duties of the NAACP. He needs to take another look at the NAACP Charter and reread the section concerning How we are to uplift and empower Aftrican Americans. if he is angry that the Eagles will not be going to the playoffs much less the superbowl this year then that’s fine. However, he is dead wrong for making such comments under the positon of president of the local NAACP. (I meant lower case).
T.O. is a grown man who simply refuse to act like one. He failed to conduct business as a man and more importantly a African American man.
J.Whyatt is silly and looks even more foolish (see picture)
I am just appalled that a person that obviously is seeking attention and publicity for public office would do it at the expense of one of Philadelphia’s class acts Donovan McNabb. You can’t tell me for one minute that a person in Mondesire’s position as leader of Philly’s branch of the NAACP didn’t know that this would start a firestorm and go national.Mr Mondesire (and I use the term Mr loosely) must take the public for fools if he thinks we’re buying what he said just as a football fan.Just seems to this voter that Mr Mondesire, with this ill advised publicity stunt, just wrecked any chance of ever being respected again in any venture he is involved with. And that’s OK with me.
I can’t believe you suppose to be a leader and acting like a high school reject. How did you become the leader for the Philly’s branch of the NAACP? Get Over It, Let It Go. Are you sure you are black?
j whyatt is a complete peice of shit racist. please die
I wouldn’t be surprised if J. Whyatt Mondesire lost his job at the NAACP. Donavan’s only fault this year was not getting the operation at the beginning of the season. That way he could have been healthy enough at the end of the season to possibly help his team reach the playoffs. As far as the staying in the pocket comment, every Eagle fan knows that he was told to try to stay in the pocket longer to give the plays a chance to develope. He also had some injuries the past couple of years that hampered his running.
J Whyatt Mondesire is an idiot at best. His idiotic remarks are a testament. T.O. negotiated his contract and thus it would be stupid of Donvan McNabb to give away money to a man that’s making $7 million per year. Mondesire should re-sign his post with the NAACP!! He does not represent the acronym. As a leader in the NAACP he has a fiduciary responsilbility to monitor his statements regardless of what arena he makes his remarks. His opinion of how he felt about Mr.McNabb should have been kept to himself as the outcry for his resignation will re-sound from the Africn-Americn community!
does the J in your name stand for Jerk-off!
This guy works for the NAACP? Who is their next hire? David Duke?.I thought the NAACP was supposed to SUPPORT African Americans not ridicule and belittle them.
What the heck did Mcnabb do except bring a winner to Philadelphia and present himself in an honest and admirable way?
Never trust a black man in a cowboy hat.
