The New Jersey Nets announced this week that Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter, president and CEO of Def Jam Recordings and part owner of the team, is looking for amateur performers to write and record the team’s theme song. The contest winner, to be chosen by Carter, will perform the song live at a game this season and will have the chance to professionally record the song. The winner will be announced on the radio station Hot 97 FM. Anyone interested can send a tape, through March 5, to Nets Song Contest, Nets Basketball, 390 Murray Hill Parkway, East Rutherford, N.J., 07073.
Were it not for the “amateur” stipulation above, this seems like it would be a great excuse for Adrenalin O.D. to record some new material.
Khia’s “The Nets Are Back” is my favorite song (that finds a way to rhyme the names Kenyon Martin and Keith Van Horn).
